Discussion of Excerpt L

Her imagery probably contains the key to whether catharsis helps or not. It depends on whether the same old “polluted water” refills the space, which catharsis temporarily empties, or whether some new “fresh water” comes in. From where does the fresh water come? “From underneath,” it comes from inside her, but it seems to come when there is contact.

Please note her answers: First, she pushes away the pressure, the “I have to [get my anger out].” Then the way she can get the anger out comes. Next she senses that just kicking and pounding will not fix it. She can sense the need for kicking and pounding, but the space these actions empty will fill up again with the same thing. Something slower, a “trickle,” is bringing a different result.
